We’re a community built on the love of reading

Books don’t care where you came from.
Books don’t care how much money you have.
Books don’t care what you do for a living.

Our story

Once upon a time, a call center clerk dreamed of a place where someone could walk in with a wish and walk out with a book, no strings attached.

In 2015, she created Embrace Books to bring her dream to the community of Muskegon. She firmly believes that books open doors for people and no one should ever be without them.

In 2023, we welcomed over 6,000 guests, sharing the magic of books. With the continued support of our community, we put more than 80,000 books—valued at over $1 million—in the hands of excited readers, spreading knowledge and possibility. We are not only making a difference in literacy but also in the environment. In 2023 we recycled enough books to match the weight of 13 Asian elephants!

Today we are partnered with 25 community agencies, 17 schools, and libraries to supply books for free to their reading programs. On top of that, our presence at community events connects us with even more readers. All this is powered by dedicated volunteers making it all possible. With 1,500+ Google requests for directions, it’s clear we’re becoming a beacon for those seeking knowledge, community, and inspiration proving what we have always known: Books build strong communities!
